Team Red Bull - Endurance Aventure (CRC) wins the TRIO Adventure Challenge - Reto Aventura MOVISTAR...

After 49:56 hours of racing in three stages, team Red Bull from Costa Rica reached the finish line in Granada's central park in first place. Ligia Madrigal, Rodrigo Carazo, Eduardo Baldioceda, and Rom Akerson completed the 350 kilometer route ahead of Rios Tropicales, second place, and Mundo Aventura - Pozo Azul, third in the general classification table. However, equipment and emergency radio penalties allowed team Generacion "A" from Guatemala to take the prize for third place. Team Parmalat-Battery earned the fourth best time while Movistar-Banco Uno, the Nicaraguan team, was not able to complete the third race stage after an all-night kayaking session to end the second stage on the island of Ometepe..


STAGE I (Cosiguina) - www.ecosportaventura.com - The first stage, a 24 hour adventura, was held in the Cosiguina Peninsula 210 kilometers northwest of Managua, near the border with Honduras. Here, athletes battled with high temperatures and dehydration for the longest stage of the race.
On the morning of July 18, the race started at Hacienda Cosiguina with a trekking-horseback riding stage. Two members of the team were rode the horses, while the other two were running thru the swamps which bit by bit were becoming deeper, and harder for competidors to run thru.
A horseback riding race took place in town and was the days focal point for the community of Cosiguina that got more involved in the competition. This was followed by a short run to the shrimp farm, where the kayak stage started, first thru the estoire, then on the Pacific Ocean paddling in the Fonseca Gulf with a magnificent view of El Salvador and Honduras. Red Bull-Endurance Aventure, MundoAventura-Pozo Azul, Rios Tropicales and Parmalat/Battery, took an early advantage over team Movistar/Banco Uno of Nicaragua and Generacion A of Guatemala.
After the kayaks, the teams hiked up to Volcan Cosiguina, where they had to deal with temperatures of 37 C. After the hard trekking, they rode their bikes to Los Farallones, where they did the stage rappel. The I stage finished early Tuesday at Hacienda Cosiguina. The first team to arrive was Red Bull.

STAGE II (Ometepe) - www.ecosportaventura.com - The second stage began the morning of Wednesday, July 18 at Ometepe Island, in Lake Nicaragua. There, the teams struggle with non-stop rain and a very slippery terrain, which difficulted the ascent to the Maderas Volcano. Again, teams Red Bull, Mundo Aventura and Rios Tropicales took the lead of the competition. At Hacienda Merida they took the kayaks and paddled for 15 kilometers around the island, where they had to plot a couple of points on the map, proving their navigation skills. The stage finished with a team challenge and over 300 community children supporting the competitors. The final skills test was a local slingshot marksman test to hit a target 100 ft away. Team Red Bull finished first. Team Movistar-Banco Uno, from Nicaragua, retired from competition after an extended seven hour paddle.

STAGE III (Granada) -www.ecosportaventura.com - The last stage began in Nandaime, with teams riding their bikes all the way to Volcan Mombacho. Nearby the volcano’s crater teams did some trekking and navigation to the fumaroles where they did an inverted canopy. They rode their bikes to Asese, where they walked to El Parque Central of Granada. The people of the community welcomed the teams as they arrived to the finish line in Granada’s central Park, across from the historic colonial church..
With an overall time of 49h 56m team Red Bull-Endurance Aventure, conformed cy Ligia Madrigal, Rodrigo Crazo, Eduardo Baldioceda and Rom Akerson, took first place at the Reto Aventura Movistar, Nicaragua 2005, Rebeca Marin, Jose Arguedas, Marco Gambia y Randall Solano of Rios Tropicales took second place.
