TRIO Adventure Challenge and our partners are committed to developing environmentally-friendly events while promoting sustainable practices at a local level. Our commitment goes beyond single event planning to integrate our principles with the community support activities integrated into the Central American Adventure Series.
In addition to proactive support for local environmental initiatives, TRIO Adventure Challenge is committed to the four Rs:
• Reduce
• Reuse
• Recycle
• Recover
TRIO Adventure Challenge also adheres to the seven central tenets of the Leave No Trace philosophy:
• Plan Ahead and Prepare
• Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
• Dispose of Waste Properly
• Leave What You Find
• Minimize Campfire Impacts
• Respect Wildlife
• Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Our initial concern is to ensure that every event has minimal environmental impact. Race organizers and participating teams and registered press and spectators are required to read and agree to environmental guidelines developed specifically for each event. Guidelines explain and provide examples of the need to dispose of waste properly, ways to reduce the usage of non-recyclable goods, and guidelines on items to reuse throughout the events.
As a second step, TRIO supports local community efforts for conservation and protection, focused mostly on educational activities in each community. You can find more information on these activities in the community development section.
